Validity of attention self-reports in younger and older adults

چکیده
Human attention is subject to fluctuations. Mind-wandering (MW) – attending thoughts unrelated the current task demands considered a ubiquitous experience. According Control Failure x Concerns view (McVay & Kane, 2010), MW curbed by executive control, and task-irrelevant enter consciousness due attentional control lapses. The generation of off-task assumed increase with higher number personal concerns. Challenging this view, older adults report less than younger adults. Here, we addressed hypothesis that lower ability notice lapses appraise their on-task focus. In an age-comparative study (N = 40 N 44 adults) using battery three tasks spanning working memory, reading comprehension, sustained attention, assessed correlation between degree self-reported focus performance on trial-by-trial basis. Younger adults' measured through thought probes was correlated equally strongly across trials in all tasks, indicating preserved monitor fluctuations healthy aging. Self-reported concerns' importance did not differ age, they predict tasks. Our shows rates aging do reflect validity appraisal or levels

Motor Learning and Movement Performance: Older versus Younger Adults
Introduction: Motor skills play an important role during life span, and older adults need to learn or relearn these skills. The purpose of this study was to investigate how aging affects induction of improved movement performance by motor training. Methods: Serial Reaction Time Test (SRTT) was used to assess movement performance during 8 blocks of motor training. Participants were tested i...
متن کاملEffect of Different Cognitive Loads on Gait Stability in Younger and Older Adults
Purpose: As many older people fall during dual tasks, we aimed to examine the effect of different cognitive loads on learning gait stability in younger and older adults. Methods: 10 younger (Mean±SD age: 25.91±3.42 years) and 10 older adults (Mean±SD: 66.65±4.28 years) were healthy volunteers without a history of falls. They were asked to do three tasks on a treadmill with cognitive load (none...
متن کاملFirst-Encounter Talks between Younger and Older Adults in Taiwan: A Conversation Analysis Approach
Outside of Western contexts, natural-conversation-based research on intergenerational communication is relatively rare. To help redress this imbalance, this paper explores the conversational styles of first-encounter talks between five pairs of college students and older adults in Taiwan, and infers the interactional norms that underlie them. It is found that younger Taiwanese adults tend to ex...
متن کاملA Comparative Study On Emotion Regulation Of Older And Younger Adults
Objectives: Healthy aging is a natural human right and emotion regulation is an important factor in improving mental health promotion in different developmental ages. This study aims to compare emotion regulation in older and younger adults. Methods & Materials: This is a causal-comparative study. The study population includes all older and younger adults in Tehran in 2019. Of these, 235 were ...
متن کاملFraming effects in younger and older adults.
A growing literature on decision making in older adults suggests that they are more likely to use heuristic processing than are younger adults. We assessed this tendency in the context of a framing effect, a decision-making phenomenon whereby the language used to describe options greatly influences the decision maker's choice. We compared decision making under a standard ("heuristic") condition...
